Engage
I don’t shoot weddings. I really don’t. Don’t even ask me to do it. It is a specialty, and doing it right is too important, so I won’t dabble in it.
But I will occasionally do engagement shoots for special people. Regular followers of this blog will recognize Alyssa Cave, and know that she is a very special friend, collaborator, and teammate. When she and her fiance’ asked me to collaborate on a unique engagement shoot, I was happy and honored to be a part of it.
Alyssa and JT are pretty hardcore Star Wars fans. I am not in their league: their knowledge of the lore, canon, backstories, trivia, well it far, far away (see what I did there?) exceeds mine. We three do concur on the horror that is Jar Jar Binks, that Han Solo shot first, and that Darth Vader has a Presence that cannot be denied.
This was a shoot where everything just worked. They arrived at the studio and began preparing: they already knew exactly what they were wearing, Alyssa already had her makeup planned. As she was finishing her look, JT and I put a final polish & shine on the mask and helmet. I made them each a latte’, and then we got right to the sequence. It happened organically: these shots are in sequence, as they happened. Sometimes it just works that way. I felt fortunate to be there.
