Shoe Shine

This exercise was to shoot shoes, careful to show shape, texture, height of heel, and color.  I had three very different pairs to select from, and I chose these very glossy shoes for the extra challenge that the shiny surfaces present.

I used thick, shiny, black glass as the table surface: it provides a beautiful reflection.  This allowed me to emphasize the shine and shape of the shoe, as well as have some creative options for placement and negative space in the image compositions.

Regular readers no doubt know that I love black and white imagery, and won’t be surprised to see that I also created monochrome versions of these images ‘for myself’ as well.  Which versions do you prefer?
